Dr. Keith H. Newby, Sr.

Dr. Keith H. Newby, Sr. was appointed to the Board of Visitors March 9, 2026 by Governor Abigail Spanberger. He was previously a member of the Virginia Health Sciences Board of Directors.

Dr. Newby is a native of Norfolk, Virginia, and a graduate of Maury High School. He earned his undergraduate degree in biology, with a minor in music, from Norfolk State University before completing his medical degree at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS). Dr. Newby completed his internship and residency at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, followed by a cardiology fellowship at Duke University with a focus on clinical cardiac electrophysiology.

Returning to Hampton Roads in 1997, Dr. Newby practiced in Hampton for two years before founding Cardiology and Arrhythmia Consultants in Norfolk in 1999. He later served as President and CEO of Fort Norfolk Medical Associates from 2010 to 2023. Currently, Dr. Newby is a Cardiologist with Bon Secours, where he serves as Hampton Roads Medical Group Cardiovascular Medical Director and Market Director of Community Health Improvement and Engagement. He also holds a Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In his current role, Dr. Newby develops programs addressing health disparities in under-resourced communities, focusing on improving access to physical and mental healthcare, reducing food insecurity, and promoting health education.

Beyond medicine, Dr. Newby is an entrepreneur and visionary. In 2006, he developed and built the Fort Norfolk Plaza medical facility鈥攁 $65 million complex completed in 2010鈥攁nd owns The Public House, a local restaurant in Norfolk. In 2009, he founded the James E. Newby, Jr., MD Foundation in honor of his late father, a renowned Cardiologist, to advance health equity and address systemic issues such as healthcare access, financial instability, food insecurity, and educational inequality.

Dr. Newby serves on several boards, including the 亚色视频 Board of Visitors, the Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at 亚色视频, TowneBank, Norfolk Collegiate School, and the Public Health Foundation. He is also an Assistant Visiting Professor of Medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Division of Cardiology. Additionally, he co-hosts the health segment of Another View on Public Radio WHRV and hosts The Newby Health Perspective, a health and wellness program on Norfolk State University radio WNSB.

Since 2023, the Newby Foundation has partnered with the Historic First Baptist Church of Norfolk to host Community Harvest Farmers Markets, providing fresh, locally grown produce to underserved populations. Dr. Newby believes everyone deserves access to nutritious food and works to create sustainable solutions that promote healthier lifestyles.

A devout Christian, Dr. Newby serves as a Deacon at the Historic First Baptist Church in Norfolk and is a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He is married to his beloved wife, Peggy, and is the proud father of Nicole, Keith Jr., and Marcella. Known for his compassion, vision, and strong faith, Dr. Newby credits God for all his success.
