The ÑÇÉ«ÊÓƵ Ellmer College of Health Sciences research portfolio is a diverse, clinically-focused, and interdisciplinary endeavor, encompassing research across our five academic schools: (1) School of Dental Hygiene, (2) School of Exercise Science, (3) School of Medical Diagnostic & Translational Sciences, (4) School of Rehabilitation Sciences, and (5) School of Speech-Language Pathology. The five Schools within the Ellmer College of Health Sciences are located in four buildings on ÑÇÉ«ÊÓƵ’s main campus, including the brand new 120,000 square foot Ellmer College of Health Sciences building that houses state-of-the-art research labs, faculty offices, teaching spaces, and two public facing clinics.
A critical mass of scholarship in the College falls under one or more of the following research pillars: (1) Healthy Aging across the Lifespan, (2) Innovative Practices, and (3) Clinical Education. The College has also recently launched the Health Enhancement & Resiliency for those who Serve(d) (HEROES) Initiative focusing on Active-Duty, Veteran, and First Responder health. Faculty in the Ellmer College of Health Sciences contribute to ÑÇÉ«ÊÓƵ’s R1 research classification with research grants from the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, Department of Energy, private industry, foundations, and professional organizations.

Research in this pillar includes pediatric oral health, writing and reading fluency in children, ankle health in middle and old age, and fall-risk in older adults.
Innovative Practices
This research pillar is anchored by research using state-of-the-art virtual reality to study human movement, simulation labs to develop clinical skills, and using a 3D bioprinter for wet lab research.
Clinical Education
Faculty supporting this pillar study how AI can support clinical decision making, best practices in clinical education, and how research can be disseminated to practitioners.
