Develop advanced expertise in musculoskeletal imaging and image-guided procedures through a comprehensive, one-year fellowship at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) at 亚色视频.

Our Musculoskeletal Imaging Fellowship provides extensive training in MRI, CT, ultrasound, and radiography, with an emphasis on sports medicine, orthopedic trauma, degenerative joint disease, inflammatory arthritis, infection, and musculoskeletal oncology. Fellows gain hands-on experience in diagnostic imaging and image-guided interventions while working closely with fellowship-trained musculoskeletal radiologists throughout the Sentara Health system.

What Sets Us Apart

Our fellowship combines the educational advantages of an academic medical center with the clinical volume and diversity of a large, subspecialized private radiology practice.

Working alongside the musculoskeletal radiologists of Medical Center Radiologists, fellows benefit from:

  • High-volume clinical experience: Exposure to a broad spectrum of musculoskeletal pathology, from routine sports injuries and degenerative conditions to complex orthopedic trauma, infection, and tumors.
  • Extensive procedural training: Hands-on experience with ultrasound- and fluoroscopy-guided joint injections, aspirations, arthrography, and image-guided bone and soft tissue biopsies.
  • Individualized mentorship: Daily case-based readouts and direct interaction with experienced, fellowship-trained MSK radiologists.
  • Multidisciplinary collaboration: Regular interaction with orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine specialists, rheumatologists, podiatrists, and other clinical teams.
  • Academic opportunities: Participation in resident and medical student education, multidisciplinary conferences, research, and quality improvement initiatives.

Our goal is to develop confident, well-rounded musculoskeletal radiologists prepared for successful careers in either academic medicine or private practice.

Curriculum

The one-year fellowship offers comprehensive training in diagnostic musculoskeletal imaging and image-guided procedures, with progressive clinical responsibility and independence under faculty supervision.

Fellows receive training in:

  • Musculoskeletal MRI, including sports injuries, internal joint derangements, and postoperative imaging
  • CT and radiographic evaluation of fractures, orthopedic hardware, and complex musculoskeletal pathology
  • Musculoskeletal ultrasound, including diagnostic examinations and procedural guidance
  • Spine imaging, including degenerative disease, trauma, and postoperative evaluation
  • Musculoskeletal oncology, including bone and soft tissue tumors
  • Inflammatory and infectious musculoskeletal conditions
  • Ultrasound- and fluoroscopy-guided joint injections, aspirations, and arthrography
  • Image-guided bone, soft tissue, and joint biopsies

Conferences, Teaching, & Research

Fellows participate in multidisciplinary educational conferences, including orthopedic oncology, sports medicine, rheumatology, and podiatry conferences.

Teaching is an important component of the fellowship. Fellows work closely with radiology residents and medical students through daily case reviews, formal educational conferences, and procedural instruction.

Research and quality improvement opportunities are available, with faculty mentorship tailored to individual interests and career goals.
