Biological Sciences
The Biological Sciences department is one of the largest at the university, challenging over one hundred graduate students and nearly seven hundred undergraduates to view biology from new perspectives based both on content and research experience.
Chemistry & Biochemistry
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers a program in biochemistry and an American Chemical Society certified program in chemistry, with an optional secondary education emphasis.
Computer Science
The Department of Computer Science (CS) offers programs leading to the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS), Master of Science with a major in computer science, and Doctor of Philosophy with a major in computer science.
Mathematics & Statistics
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics holds a unique distinction of being the only department in the Commonwealth of Virginia to offer B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Computational and Applied Mathematics.
Ocean & Earth Sciences
The Department of Ocean & Earth Sciences acquires and disseminates knowledge of the earth system, including the relationships among the biological, chemical, geological and physical components of our planet.
Physics
The physics department has been selected by the University to achieve national prominence, taking advantage of Old Dominion's proximity (a half-hour drive) to the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (TJNAF), the world's premier nuclear physics research facility, and the NASA Langley Research Center.
Psychology
The department's full-time faculty represent a range of areas in psychology. The undergraduate program provides a broad coverage of the discipline along with research and applied opportunities to prepare students for a graduate education or diverse career paths.
